Johnny Farina Restaurant

My wife and I had been to Johnny Farina several times in the past and enjoyed our dining experience. On this occasion I was there with a group of 4. As a main dish I ordered chicken parmigiana. When the meal arrived the pasta was cool however when I began eating the chicken I realized that it was raw....not undercooked but raw. I have eaten at hundreds of restaurants all over the world and this was the first time that I've had an experience like this. I reported the problem to our waitress who offered to replace the meal. I suggested that that was not enough compensation for having served raw meat. I suggested that our meals be provided for free. The waitress said she could not authorize that so I asked to speak to the manager. Well a bad situation rapidly became worse. The owner came to our table and without apologizing stated that what we had asked for was unreasonable. He never offered an alternative but rather told us to "pay the check and get out". I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This was a restaurant owner who just served raw chicken to a customer and now I was the bad guy. Needless to say my wife and family will never be going to this restaurant again, my wife won�t be using the restaurant to host conference meals for 50 -75 people and I would encourage everyone else who is looking for Italian food in Ottawa to go anywhere other than Johnny Farina....

Luxe is all about appearances - little substance We had a 7:30pm reservation and arrived on time - the 5 of us were promptly seated at a comfy booth. I was really looking forward to a great meal. My husband and I had been in the summer for apps on the patio which were delicious but this was a few years ago.I ordered a beet carpaccio salad which to my disappointment included wilted greens and beets that I swear came from a can or have been sitting around in their kitchen too long. Glancing over at my husband's caesar salad showed the same problem with the romaine - brown edges on the lettuce. On to the main - my father in laws lamb was nicely presented and generous portion but not tender and overcooked.My black cod was average - I could hardly detect the miso glaze the menu promised but it was nicely cooked. The sticky rice with shrimp was cold and I had trouble detecting any shrimp. My husband had steak and frites and the frites were very good along with the aioli dip.The service at the table was attentive and wine selection was very good. On our way out after paying the $500 bill with tip -we were completely ignored by the manager and hostess who were standing by the door - a simple thank you and good night would have been nice.Won't be back unless I hear it has improved. It's a cool place but you have to pay some attention to the food at these prices - it's definitely missing Benitz in the kitchen....

Service was excellent and food was outstanding. Had the philly cheesesteak rolls to start. Tempura snapper and steak frites were both to die for. Toffee pudding and black forest sundae for desert. Only one small complaint, it was freezing! Even sitting close to the fire couldn't warm us up. Don't let that detract from going here though. We will be going here again, with a thicker sweater!...

The chef provide a typical authentic experience of japanese cuisine (try the classical Kamikaze, you will discover an interesting variation). A little more invention could be proposed on the menu, but I guess it is a conservative and traditional restaurant. other opportunites for improvement: Tampura could be a little more crunchy and seaweed salad bigger...

My wife and I had a negative experience at Domus. The food, overly priced was a dissapointment thanks to poor quality meats. The boar was inedible and the duck was like chewing taffy. Most dissapointing was that the "award winning" wine list gives inaccurate reports of Robert Parker ratings. I make no apologies for the fact that I trust Robert Parker's palate. But that all goes out the window when a restaurant is willing to attribute higher scores than what the wine was actually rated at. I contacted Chef Taylor via e-mail and he has ignored making response on this issue. His wine list still has innacurate information on wine ratings. To me this indicates a conscious effort to mislead. If the reataurant will mislead on that issue, they will certainly mislead you on the origin of their ingredients which is something even less verifiable than a Parker Wine Rating. Be especially careful in trusting this restaurant. If the meal I had is any sign, you'd be best to dine elsewhere....

I recently visited Kinki with a friend of mine who frequently visits the restaurant and who had recommended it before. Im usually skeptical about trying new restaurants, but Kinki was a delight! I had the Edamame to start, and the Sky Hi maki roll. I also tried some of the cocktails, which were amazing :) the staff, besides being very good-looking, were well-trained, friendly, and very efficient. The atmosphere was fantastic as well! Loved the music:) I highly recommend Kinki to anyone looking for a great restaurant to try in Ottawa. I will definitely be coming back !...

I've been going to Kinki for years and have seen a wide variety of menus. Some of them were fantastic, some of them okay. Well this new one definitely falls under the fantastic. Kinki has always had a bit of a reputation for being a little expensive, not anymore!! They didn't have one dish over $20!!! And the food was awesome. I went with my boyfriend recently and we had the Kara Age as an apetizer, and it was delish. He had the coconut kissed curry chicken (it was a long name and i can't remember exactly the name) and I had the Kinki Maki (I always get it because it's so addictive!) and the Sandra's Naughty Tiger (I'm guessing this is named for the girl who's been there forever, she's so nice and always smiling!) which might be my new favorite roll. Anyways, all this to say, the food was even better than the last menu and the service was good too! I'll definitely be coming for another few years!...

Though there are now tables in Yre's we prefer to take the excellent chicken home with us. If you've ever passed near Rideau and Charlotte and found your mouth watering, Yre's grilling fumes are probably the reason! Chicken is marinated and basted in a wonderfrul spice mixture and then grilled to smokey charred perfection. Sides include fried sweet plantains and a coucous-like Ivorian dish called attieke, and are not always available. Orders are taken by phone....

This Eritrean restaurant serves allthe classics from the Ethiopian repertoire in a pleasant and airy setting. The food is always fresh and nicely spiced. Service is helpful and friendly. Portions are slightly smaller than next door, but still generous. SA good place to bring adventurous children who like to eat with their fingers!...

Pho Tu Do is our favourite for Pho, which is the main specialty of this place. The broth is simply the best in town, rich and flavourful with absolutely no coriander. There are very few other dishes offered, so non Pho lovers will be disappointed....

How's the food at Bocado? I couldn't tell you. Here's why: The restaurant staff doesn't answer the telephone often, so one has to leave a message on their answering machine to make a reservation. To make a long, long story short, they didn't listen to my full message when I had to change the reservation date, and I couldn't get in touch with them (answering machine again) before the friends I was meeting left home. Turns out the place was booked for a party. My friends showed up earlier than me (trying to head them off at the pass), and were turned away. So much for getting a babysitter and planning an evening out with friends. The restaurant did say that if I e-mailed them, they would send a gift certificate as an apology. I e-mailed once. I e-mailed twice. Still waiting for a reply. With service like this, I can't believe this restaurant is still open....

Wong's has been part of our family tradition for over 30 years. You are always greeted with a smile (from the owners, no less) and can expect a most pleasant culinary experience. Fine food, great variety, reasonable prices and EXCEPTIONAL customer service. For any type of gathering; business/family/couple/romantic. Wong's is family-owned and operated, giving it that "good 'ol days" feeling. Many fond memories have been created as a result of going to Wong's and meeting their wonderful family. I would stay away from the buffet, as I have been and would agree with hiiyah. However, the a la carte is a totally different experience. We have been to this restaurant for dinner many times over the past two years and have found it to be one of the best indian restaurants in ottawa. Of particular note, they have revised their menu to include a variety of naan breads and speciality indian dishes. Our personal favourites are the tandoori chicken, any of the chic pea dishes, and the butter chicken. I have tried butter chicken at all of the ottawa restos and have no hesitation in saying bombay is the best....

Perhaps we were just unlucky. We sat at our table for an hour while the chef prepared two chicken-jerk club sandwiches with salad and sides. For my side (roasted vegetables) the portion was meager and the vegetables micro-wave hot. My partner's side of fries was an equally small portion, but at least not microwaved. The jerk chicken was dry. The salad - served after we had finished eating the rest of the meal - was drenched with too much dressing. The tea we ordered was cold, the pot didn't poor. My partner was stuck in a drafty doorway - and his comfort level was not improved by the server's bum hovering a few inches from his face as she served the table next door. We had just stopped by for a friendly lunch en route to Ikea. We really regretted not holding off and eating there. Jak's kitchen was full when we arrived and the whole time we were there so some people must like it. The crowd was young and the vibe apealing for the first half hour or so. If you do go around lunch time on a weekend, be prepared to wait, and order from the brunch menu and *not* the lunch menu!...

I barely ever waited for an order. The service is very fast. The portions are very large, but you can ask for what you like if you are not interested in great portions of potatoes or rice. I used to order their plates, but now I only order the large greek salad. It is a divine LARGE healthy salad that will leave you feeling completely satisfied....

Went to the Pho Thi Fusion in Barrhaven with wife and friends recently, ordered the pad thai for myself, my wife and friends had sushi... very pleasantly surprised by such an up scale and classy establishment in Barrhaven... the main chef in the kitchen is a culinary master as is the sushi chef out front, waitresses all very courteous... can't wait to go back, well worth the price... 5 stars!!!...

April 5, 2008 I have been to Biagio's several times in the past 2 years. On this evening my wife and I were joined by 2 other couples and we suggested Biagio's due to location and past experience. MANAGEMENT MUST HAVE CHANGED. Our first clue should have been that on Saturday eveneing at 6:30 the restaurant was only 1/4 to 1/3 occupied. Service was slow (couldn't have been because of business). It took 20 minutes for the first contact with a server and another 10 before the wine was delivered and 7 more before I received my beer. 5 members at the table ordered pasta dishes which they rated as avrage to good. I ordered the veal marsala, one of my favorite dishes. The tender portions of veal were delivered beside some very nicely cooked vegetables (orage bell peppers and brocolli with roasted potates. All were covered with a greasy gravy with no hint of Marsala wine. When this was relayed to the server, the response was that that could not be since these sauces were ordered in special "Ordered In????" I suggested that she remove my plate and ask the chef if he thought this was a marsalla sauce. The poor service now got worse. When we finally received our bill, there was no mention of the returned meal and not even so much as a complimentary cup of coffee. WILL I GO BACK NO, NEVER, NO WAY even if hell freezes over. I would highly recommend that if you want even good food...go somewhere else...

This place is right across the street from Alcatel, so I was hoping it would be decent. To give it a fair shake I have been there three times... Time #1) buffet was not bad (nothing special though), but the fact that they ran out of naan bread and didn't replenish it the whole time I was there, gets them an F for effort. Time #2) the good news is that there was naan bread, the bad news is, the food was not good (temperature & taste). The butter chicken was passable, but the veggie dishes were not up to most Indian buffet standards. Time #3) average experience. Plenty of naan and some decent tastes at the buffet. Out of all of the Indian Buffets I have sampled in the city, I put this at the bottom of the list (along with the Taj on Carling). If you are stuck in the area and simply must have Indian food, maybe check it out... otherwise move on. If you can make it to Bells Corners, hit Havelli's instead....

After our favorite place on Somerset closed we were having trouble finding another place we liked. We find Chu Shing a little greasy, and greatly dependent on the chef that day. We find the Ynagtze a little pricey for what you get. Anyways, this place has a great dim sum and the food is always hot. The selection is not quite as wide as some of the larger places, but still quite good. Our new favorite....

My co-workers made a lunch time reservation for a party of six. The restaurant serves a lunch buffet for $9.99. Before my group left for the restaurant, I called to ask if I would be able to order items off the regular menu, explaining that my severe food allergies would prevent me from eating the buffet dishes. The restaurant employee said I could order items off the menu, but I would have to pay the buffet price of $13.00 (this must be the cost of the buffet with tax). I told the employee that the only item I could eat from the menu is the nan bread which costs much less than $13.00 and again let him know that this was due to severe food allergies. The employee told me that I did not understand the concept of a business, they are trying to make money and they will not have me come in and spend $5.00 when they can have someone else come in a spend $13.00. The employee told me that they did not want to lose money because of me. Needless to say, my co-workers canceled the reservation and we did not taste the food, but I am sure it is bad....

They serve mainly northern Chinese fare such as green onion pancake, pan-fried dumplings, steamed dumpligs, thick noodles with beef tendon, fried noodles. Very tasty and not too heavy food. If you've been to any restaurants in Beijing, you'll be familiar with the food. If you haven't, it's definitely a good place to go.....

This is a buffet style menu, and a pseudo cafeteria style seating plan....which may not appeal to all. There is a good variety of foods from all cultures, which are very tasty. The desserts are ok. Food is priced by weight...which can be expensive. Average meal is between $9-13 dollars....

An absolutely divine dining experience! We ordered: - oyster sampler (18 for $45) quality was incredible - seared scallops, done to perfection and the lentils were delicious - a bowl of clams in steamwhistle beer with sliced can't-remember-the-name sausage Service was outstanding with his explanations to our large group clear and concise. He explained to us the type, origin, and taster of oysters. Great dining experience....

The congee is probably, by far, the best in town. It wasn't too soggy, nor filled with MSG and it had a very smooth texture. I enjoyed their salmon and shrimp combination, but there were other unique combinations (blood something, beef, chicken) that all sounded very tempting. The fried bread stick was also very delicious and piping hot. The lunch crowd was non-stop and the service was still very attentive and friendly. On their menu is a wide selection of lo mein and fried rice dishes....

With a wide selection of sushi, sashimi, rolls, katsu, tempura this is a great place to to try all sorts of Japanese cuisine items. We were there on Saturday evening and it was very busy, but we were seatly promptly. Though a bit fazed by the numbers of people that evening, our server sill managed to get all our orders throughout the night and the food was brought out very quickly. The quality of food was surprisingly very food and high marks for the tuna and salmon. There were lots of unique items that I had never tried before including: dragons tails (some sort of shrimp tempura wrapped in sushi), white tuna, several types of rolls. And they even have dessert too! Great place....

This restaurant surprised me. I was expecting the same old, same old from the owners of Luxe and the Empire Grill, but was pleased to find a menu with lots of variety, and dishes for both the financially challenged as well as the wealthier set. Their lamb entree was particularly memorable, and their sleek brown leather decor provided the right ambience for a late night dinner with friends. Their patio is also well situated for people watching. Service was solid. I'd definitely go back....

This restaurant is a fantastic mix of quality food, excellent service and great atmosphere - not too stuffy and formal, not to cheap or grubby. I've been 3 times, covering both lunch and dinner, and each time I received exceptional service and delicious food. The Wellington Gastropub selects their beers and wine carefully, and prepares unique and fresh meals for a reasonable price. Plus, I love the tin ceiling and the exposed brick! I'd recommend this place to anyone who appreciates good food and attention to the little details that make dining out a pleasure!...

The portions are HUGE, larger than anything I've ever eaten in Ottawa for Greek cuisine. Ordering the classic pork soulvaki, you'll get lots of garlic bread, a greek salad and a plate full of herb-infused potatoes, rice covered in a delicious mystery sauce and lots of pieces of grilled pork. You'll definitely be taking home leftovers......

Paddy O'Dea's is awesome and is now even better with the huge patio and v-ball courts. It is a great place to watch a hockey or football game on the several big screen TV's in the pub or in the lounge area. The food is excellent - from tasty pub fare to the fine dinner menu. It's hard to choose, so you should try everything once. There is also a wide selection of imported and domestic beer on tap - perfect for the game. I encourage you to go out and support a fine local restaurant....

We've been going to Savana Cafe for years, and our most recent visit last Friday night reinforced its position as one of my favourite Ottawa restaurants. We shared the fresh rice paper rolls to start with - they've changed these a little since my last visit, the filling is no longer peanut chicken but a mix of chicken, shrimp, noodles and herbs. Still very tasty, though they were a bit cold (had been premade and refrigerated). That was my one tiny quibble in the whole evening. For mains, my husband had his usual Pad Thai, mild, and it was the delicious, enormous heap of noodles it's always been. I was sure I was going to order the curry chicken roti, which I adore, but got enticed by the fish special, seared tuna crusted with fresh herbs with coconut rice, sauteed veggies and a mango-ginger reduction. It was both incredibly tasty and gorgeously presented, all the flavours worked, and the portion of tuna was generous without being ridiculous. I would order this all the time if it was a regular menu item. I had the Italian Cream for dessert - again, they've altered the presentation slightly since my last visit but it was still delicious. The boy devoured his usual slice of banana cheesecake with warm Belgian chocolate sauce. All in all, a terrific meal and a lovely evening. Pleasant if slightly ditsy service. The lunch buffet is excellent value ($8.95) and the quality of the food is exceptional. I really enjoyed the naan bread which was made fresh in their tandoori oven. You can even see the bread being made in the kitchen behind a glass window. Highly recommended....

Love this place. I�ve had the vermicelli dishes, the seafood and rice noodle soup, the pork spring rolls, and the fresh rice paper rolls, and all were tasty though I found the fried spring roll wrappers a bit too thick. The vermicelli dishes are generally very good, but when I was there last weekend the pork was very fatty (first time this has happened to me, so I�ll let it slide this time). Shrimp were excellent though. My husband�s stir fry with mushrooms, broccoli, shrimp and beef was awesome, and I also tried a yellow curry stir-fry that my mom had once, which was lovely. I�ll probably try a stir-fry next time I go, and will stick with the rice paper rolls for an appy. They give you a huge pot of delicious, free green tea with every meal....

My husband and I have eaten at Wasabi numerous times and have always enjoyed it. The service is decent and the food tasty, and we enjoy the room a lot (though it would be slightly brighter � sometimes we can�t see our food). We brought Toronto friends there over the Canada Day weekend and had a good meal (though I wouldn�t call it great). I ordered the house salad, which was fresh and crisp � iceberg lettuce, slices of cucumber, strings of carrot and a chunk of tomato all topped with that amazingly addictive ginger sesame dressing. I also find it fun to eat salad with chopsticks! My husband had the mixed tempura appetizer from which he offered me the slice of eggplant because he hates it. I thought it was tasty, but not as crisp as it could be. Nice selection of veggies and 2 good sized shrimp though. From the a la carte sushi menu I ordered salmon, tuna and yellowtail sashimi, a California roll and a tempura roll. The Cali roll was good, but paled in comparison to the one I had in Montreal over Victoria Day weekend. The sashimi was all tasty but a teeny bit dry. The tempura roll was HUGE � as in, its diameter had to be two and a half inches, which is too big for a sushi roll in my opinion. I had to eat it in two bites and each piece fell to bits on me. My friend had another of the specialty rolls and had the same problem. Her husband ordered the Mango Tango roll and was disappointed in the too-thin slices of mango draped over the top of the roll, but pronounced it tasty otherwise. My husband�s cucumber rolls were just fine, he said. I like Wasabi but think I might be spoiled by Montreal for good sushi. I might try Genji and see if I like it better....

This restaurant has pretty good food, but if the restaurant is busy...don't bother. The owner and his wife are the only staff, and it will result in slow service, re-heated food, and spoil what would otherwise be great. Amazing decor!...

Good food, good drinks and a patio right on Elgin Street...hard to beat!...

The wings are great, they have 101 flavours of them, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. I've been there 5+ times and only been happy with the service once (the most recent time, so maybe it's improving). The worst service we've received is waiting 30min for our drink order and then being charged incorrectly on the bill (we paid extra) but we wanted to get out of there so bad at that point so we just paid it. Also the prices are a little high....

What a great spot. Two dinning rooms with two private rooms available upstairs. A fine bistro menu for the bistro and a pub menu for the pub room and 2100 sqft patio. The patio is HUGE and overlooks 2 beach volleyball courts which any customer can use. The food is great with a wide variety from finger foods to Steaks to stuffed chicken dinners. Its a pub with a fine bistro twist. Casual fine dinning....

Try the "Three Ring Binder". Great burgs, and you can even invite your vegetarian friends (and debate how silly it is to be vegetarian when there are so many delicious animals out there to eat) as every burger can be made with a pretty tasty veggie patty instead. I've tried most sushi restaurants in Ottawa. This is by far the best one. The basement has a very traditional Japanese look. Ask for a private room (those without chairs). Pretty cool! Staff is very nice and the quality is always there. Traditional Japanese menu. The prices are slightly higher than the average....

Pizza was tasty, but the crust could have been better. All the toppings were great - a little work on the crust and this place would be excellent! The draft choices were slim (Rickards red, Blue and Keiths), but the fact that the pitcher and the glasses were stored in a freezer prior to serving made up for it. Overall a pleasant experience....
